why register my trade secrets
Registering your secrets allows you to prove in a time and date stamped digitally verifiable way, that you claim ownership of that information, idea, secret or invention at or before the time and date stamped registration. This is commonly referred to as “first use”, “prior possession claim”, “independent development claim of the information”. By registering your trade secret your secrets are encrypted upon registration and do not become public record, unlike filing for a copyright or patent.
Encryption of your secrets upon registration and making your first use claim as of the date and time of registration, along with other methods for maintaining secrecy of the information, you control the confidentiality of your secrets.
As a private registry unaffiliated with any governmental agency, US Trade Secrets Registry will not make your secrets a public record, and they do not have an expiration date, unlike copyright and patent protections which become public records, and have expiration dates.
